Zaisan Memorial
South of the city, on top of Zaisan hill you will find a masterpiece of socialist architecture build by the Russians. The memorial offers an incredible sight over UB and the surrounding hills, as well as a nice workout on your way to the top. Bring just as the locals a drink with you. Watch, as the sun sets, the thousands of small sparkling lights getting switched on.
Bring a visit to the ger-district
For the most authentic experience of the ger-district don’t book a tour at an agency but make local friends and ask them to show you around. Walk up and down hill, try a local dish, visit a few gers and watch the sunset over the thousands of coloured rooftops. Make sure your visit is pleasant, don’t go without a local friend or a guide and don’t go after sunset.
Bring a visit to a Shaman
Once you are out of UB you have to give in to the Mongolian culture. Staying in UB you can keep living your (Western) lifestyle. But during a ceremony of a Shaman you get to experience true authentic Mongolian culture. Shamanism is one part of the culture we found incredibly interesting. Read here all about our visit to a Shaman.
