Every morning I wake up of the sound of the waves. When I step out of my room I look out over the ocean which is already full of surfers catching their first waves. While we enjoy a fresh fruit salad and eggs on toast for breakfast, we watch people doing their yoga exercise or morning run on the beach. This is a typical start of the day on Sri Lanka’s south coast. I can’t get bored of it. By tuk tuk we explore the laid-back seaside villages from west to east. Surfers with white painted faces of sunblock walk by and fisherman standing on a stilt are trying to catch tonight’s dinner. Sri Lanka’s south coast is all about surfing, yoga, healthy and delicious (sea-)food, dancing and meeting new friends. I feel like never leaving this island again. There are many sweet places to stay from budget to midrange and comfy backpackers hostels to peaceful villa’s. We stayed at several places who all have in common that we felt immediately at home. The Sri Lankan people are super friendly and always willing to help. Most of the hotels are located on the sun kissed beaches, just a few steps away from the best surf or snorkel spots. These are our favorites on Sri Lanka’s south coast.
