Does it still exist in Thailand? Pure island life as it was meant to be? Day after day endlessly lounging in your hammock, meanwhile you’ll zip on your freshly shaked piña colada. Palm trees wave above your head; your panorama is a pearl white beach and a clear blue sea. Underneath the water surface is an untouched coral reef full of colourful tropical sea life and your fellow travellers are countable on two hands.
Leo searched and found in the nineties where we are looking for two decennia later. A Thai utopia, a dream escape, The Beach.
A little slice of paradise
Unfortunately no one at Khao San Road handed us in a mysterious way a handwritten map over to a secret tropical get-away. But with some excellent online search skills we find what we are looking for; our semi undiscovered dream escape. After a short flight from Bangkok to Phuket, a taxi ride to the harbour and an exciting private speedboat pick up we arrive at Koh Yao Noi situated in the Phang Nga Bay. The view is hypnotic and unbelievable beautiful. A pearl white desolate palm tree fringed beach with a calm blue bay. 500 metre out of the coast rise a dozen huge limestone’s out of the glittering sea. The mesmerizing views and the glasses of champagne that are handed over to us by a bright smiling Thai woman give me goose bumps all over. Paradise found!
Island life
We charter a long tail boat and local captain and navigate through the high limestones to our private island for a day. We snorkel in the deserted bays full of fish and explore our uninhabited island. We learn how to sup -easy peasy!- and rent a bike to discover neighbour island Koh Yao Yai. Both islands are filled with lush green vegetation and bushes full purple and pink tropical flowers. When we drive over the isles only road, happy faced islanders wave at us from their little shops and colourful homes. We find many traditional local eateries, selling delicious freshly prepared Thai curries, healthy coconut shakes and our all time favourite Pad Thai.
The coastline offers endless fine soft-sanded beaches and bays to relax the day away. Very island style we follow a cocktail shake course and daydream about a permanent stay. We get up with sunrise to practise our yoga and refresh in the chilled sea. During sunset and ebb tide the water drops so low that small white sand peninsulas appear in the blue bay. A perfect time for snapshots! Every night we toast with a Leo (forget Chang and Singha this is the best Thai beer!) and see the sky turn every possible pastel pink. Call it your ultimate exclusive get-away, a mini vacation in your world trip or a never to forget sunny Christmas holiday. But if you are you in Thailand, make sure to visit these two natural beauties!
During our visit we stayed here on Koh Yao Noi. On Koh Yao Yai the lovely Better View Bed and Breakfast is a great price quality option. Koh Yao Yai Village is an excellent stylish choice to sleep and a fine place for a romantic dinner and drinks with view.
Schitterend !
Dankjewel Nico!
