On my bare feet I turn 360 degrees in front of a faded hindu temple and try to take in all of the colourful ceremony around me. The Indian flutes are playing so loud they drown out the noise of the growing beautiful dressed Sri Lankan crowd. The smell of strong incense stings in my nose. Next to me one by one men only wearing a skirt burst coconuts into the ground. The coconut water splashes in my face and the nut is lit up and offered to a bright coloured god I have never seen before. A women in a purple silk sari, with a scale full of fire walks up to me and puts her red painted thumb in between my eyebrows. I bow and say bohoma stūtiyi. The excitement is clearly to see in everyone’s face. Something big is about to happen. India has been for a long time on my list, it still is. But in North Sri Lanka I already feel as if I am right in the middle of it.
