Bangkok is well known for its fancy restaurants, glamorous rooftops and arty hipster cafe’s. The vibrant city has many hotspots to choose from but we made it a little easier for you with a list of our favorites!

Coffee, lunch & brunch

Rocket Bar

This stylish brunch and cocktail café is one of the best coffee bars in town. The interior style is very Scandinavian with wooden furniture, marbled tables and an awesome geometric lighting sculpture hanging above the open kitchen with bar. The lovely glasshouse-inspired entrance brings natural light inside. You can lean back and watch the chefs prepare your sandwich or salad from your table. On the menu is a large variety of egg breakfast, salads, sandwiches, pasta, desserts, Nordic dishes and healthy juices. There is an in-house bakery with a selection of delicious breads and pastries like cinnamon buns, chocolate & oat balls and the gorgeous looking rocky road cake (made of white chocolate with pistachio, cranberries and marshmallows). But the coffee is the star here. The baristas only use carefully selected small-batch roasted beans. Rocket bar is owned by a Swedish trio of mixologists so of course there are cocktails too!

D’Ark

A brunch, burgers and comfort food, a three course dinner or just an amazing good cup of coffee, D’Ark has it all. There is an à la carte menu of small -portioned dishes designed by Chef Jeriko Van Der Wolf’s who has a Michelin star background. We had the salmon eggs benedict served on delicious freshly baked brioche buns and for dessert the homemade granola with yoghurt and strawberry goji coulis, which is also a perfect choice for breakfast. The restaurant is owned by coffee roaster Phillip Di Bella who designed the coffee menu. All D’Ark single origins are from the coffee growing regions Central America, Africa and South-East Asia.

Bitterman

This stylish Thai bistro is set in a spacious glasshouse filled with tropical greens. The founders are third-year architecture students who turned the place into an industrial-style eatery. I love the interior with large wooden tables, old-school chairs, cactus pots set on each table and plants hanging from the ceiling and growing from the ground. It’s a perfect space to work triggering your creativity, have lunch, brunch, after work drinks or dinner. On the menu is a combination of Western and Thai dishes, like spicy hand cut fettuccini pasta with blue swimmer, tomato ragu and chili.

Nightlife

Vertigo & Moon Bar

Is it a boat? No, it is the best rooftop bar you have ever been on. There is no better way to start or end your days in Bangkok sipping a cocktail at the Vertigo & Moon Bar. It is situated on the top floor of the Banyan Tree hotel. The entire rooftop is used for both the bar and the restaurant and designed in a shape that gives you the impression of being onboard of a sky ship. The prices match the height but the amazing 360 views on the glittering city is all worth it. Be sure not to arrive late to have the best seats. The restaurant offers a fresco dining experience set with delicious seafood and premium steaks accomplished with an excellent selection of wine. Be aware of the smart casual dress code, leave your flip-flops, sneakers and backpacks at home.

Brown Sugar

Brown Sugar is one of Bangkok’s best live music bars. In 1997 the bar was ranked as one of the best bars in the world by Newsweek. The place attracts a fine hip crowd and has live music every night. The owners seem to know exactly what type of live band is appreciated. And the bar is busy every weekend. The round space is set up with dining tables around the stage. The walls are full of vintage American movie posers and music icons. The owner and his wife -always with shades- are true entertainers and create a classical jazz bar vibe. Brown Sugar is a meeting place for people in art and the entertainment. Our first Saturday night at the Brown Sugar, jazz singer Wanlika performed with her band ”Attention Please”. Her beautiful voice and her stylish appearance immediately got our attention. She started singing when she was twelve and is a jazz star in Thailand. Every Saturday she performs at the Brown Sugar, make sure you don’t miss her!

El Chiringuito

Chiringuito is a Spanish word for a small seasonal tapas bar. Owner Pupe who lived six years in Spain with her husband Victor opened the bar in February 2016. She knows best how to prepare tasty tapas, sangria and tinto the verano. Don’t miss out on the GT’s with Xoriguer gin, this is definitely the best GT’s in Bangkok! El Chiringuito used to be an old shop and has turned into a new retro styled bar with vintage wooden furniture, classic sewing tables, old school posters on the walls and a chalkboard menu. This area in Chinatown, just off the Charoenkrung Road has become an artsy spot with several charming small bars to spend the evening.
