It’s a quiet and hip fishing town on the Atlantic Coast. The coolest surf school in town welcomes you in their riad, surf school and a week of relaxing yoga. In one week I picked up on my surf skills again. Rachid, our teacher is though but gives you the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself more and feel the magic of gliding over the water. You cruise past camels and the peaceful coastline of Essaouria is the perfect spot to enjoy that holiday feeling. We start with a technique lesson on the beach, learning how to be in the best position to get up once you hit the water. In a small group I learn more about how to keep your balance and the best thing from learning in groups is that you learn from each other’s mistakes. After day one we are a team and falling down was fun, but getting up and hearing your new friends cheer for you is the best!
In the afternoon, after a good and healthy lunch we start the yoga experience. On a windy rooftop with a breathtaking view we salute the sun. While the gulls float above us, I breathe deeply. I feel at home here. Surfing works many of the same muscles as used in yoga and this combination is active and calming at the same time.
The next morning breakfast is served in the common riad, where all other Explora guests stay. One of the best things about this place is that they convey that community feeling so well. It is not just about the surfing, you are a part of something. Jokes are made at breakfast, high fives are shared and at nine I join my team for a walk to the beach. Our surf teacher is waiting for us again.
If you are looking for a more flexible holiday, want to change to kite surfing or just want to have a holiday and rent a board; don’t hesitate to ask because anything is possible. The team that is crazy about the sea adjusts its program to your wishes. All members are open minded, sharing the same passion. Sara and her staff improve their guests experience whenever they can; no surprise Explora is dominating the first position on TripAdvisor for years now.
