A still authentic Caribbean paradise, unpaved sandy roads, no cars, no high rise, just colorful houses, and ditto sunsets, free salsa lessons at night and stunning sunsets to dream away. The island stretches 30 km long, has long white sandy beaches, tranquil waters full of flamingo’s and whale sharks in the nearby deeper waters in the summer. Golf carts and bikes are the way to get around. This are our favourite spots on the island.
Boutique Hotel Las Nubes
Blessed with an unbeatable location at the beginning of the unspoiled beaches of Holbox, Quintana Roo, boutique hotel Las Nubes Hotel offers 28 spacious rooms with magnificent views of the Caribbean. The hotel is set in a natural landscape, next to the mostly deserted kite surf beach, spot iguanas sunbathing during the and a family of raccoons at night. Have breakfast right at the seafront and go for a relaxing sup session right after.
Hotel Casa Barbara
Hotel Casa Barbara is situated in the main street of Isla Holbox on about 10 min walking distance from the beach. The hotel is set in a tropical garden with large (nightly lit) swimming pool. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with television, private bathroom, air-conditioning and Wi-Fi.
Luuma
Dress island chique and get yourself at least one night to arty hipster Luuma, defenitly thé hotspot of the island. Luuma has a very stylish interior,and is romantically light by night. The restaurant has an interesting cocktail menu full of unexpected surprisingly good flavour combinations. The menu of Luuma consists out of Mediterranean and Mexican tapas, as we love to share we tried them all. A must visit!
El Sushi Holbox
This is the place to go if you wan to have the best sushi. The restaurant is situated on the main street, so you can watch everyone parade by. Start with a cocktail (definitely a margarita!) and pick out your favourite maki’s. They are as fresh as can be and truly mouth-watering. Be prepared to get hooked!
Rosa Mexicano
Right next to El Sushi is Rosa Mexicana, a delicious Mexican style restaurant. Try out the mole as a starter and make sure to order the tuna. The chef has excellent cooking skills and gives her own delicious twist to local dishes. Definitely a must try!
El Mangle, beachside restaurant
El Mangle, is the perfect place to hang out all day. Let their team spoil you with fine coffee, sweet cocktails and enjoy Holbox’s famous sunset right from the terrace. The kitchen has a unique blend of modern and traditional cuisine. Make sure to also visit their rooftop bar with pool (!) right in the center of town for pre dinner drinks!
Ukulele
Ukelele is a chilled place for lunch, drinks and dinner. The super friendly local owner serves the best seafood tacos, hamburgers and has some great vegetarian options. Everything taste super fresh and crispy. Hop of your bike and relax the afternoon at Ukulele and ask the owner for his secret island tips!
