Bangkok is famous for its best street food in the world, but as the city modernizes, the dining scene is growing up too. The Thai capital is home to some of the best restaurants worldwide. Five restaurants in Bangkok made the cut in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list 2015. Among them is Issaya as mentioned below. Eating our way through the city’s best restaurants we made you a list of top tables that are a must checking out!
Dutch chef Henk Savelberg who has been awarded a Michelin star for four restaurants in Holland, opened his first restaurant outside his home country; Savelberg Bangkok. As two Duchies we couldn’t be more tempted to try out his tasting menu. The fine dining restaurant serves a modern French cuisine with a Dutch touch. Savelberg’s Dutch roots filter clearly through the vibrant orange themed interior. The restaurant has a high ceiling; large windows, black marble floor tiles and a partly open kitchen where you can see the busy chefs at work. We enjoy a tasting menu starting with a signature Savelberg cocktail, a mix of champagne, crème de cassis and cranberry juice. Every following dish is prepared with quality ingredients and a focus on detail and presentation. The halibut is one of our favourites. A beautiful piece of fish decorated with milkk foam, a toast with edible flowers and green peas. Savelberg has an exceptional selection of wines from the old and new worlds presented by acknowledged and attentive staff. If you’re looking for fine dining, Savelberg is a must visit. The ambiance is perfect for either a casual or business lunch and dinner.

The German twin chefs Thomas and Mathias Sühring, learned their tricks while working with star chefs across Europe including Jonnie Boer’s De Librije in Zwolle and La Pergola in Rome with Heinz Beck. The twins opened Bangkok’s most exciting new restaurant Sühring 6 months ago in partnership with Gaggan (owner of the top restaurant Gaggan ranked as the best restaurant in Asia and 10th in the world). Sühring is a beautiful house on Yen Akart Road surrounded by a tropical garden. The setting maintains a dinner at someone’s house vibe with comfy sofas, soft cushions and bookshelves lined with beautiful cookbooks. The large open kitchen at the back of the house has a bar and a few tables from where you can see the chefs prepare modern German cuisine. The 12 servings menu is a selection of refined traditional German food inspired by grandmother’s recipes. Each course surprised us in a different way. Especially the classical caesar salad which I’ve never eaten like this before. All dishes are beautifully presented an accompanied with fine wines. The super friendly staff all know their theory. The talented twins, both passionate and charming create a warm ambiance and an exquisite culinary experience you won’t find elsewhere in Bangkok.
